Future Leaders of the Palestinian Community in Israel

I'lam Media Center's leadership project, addresses the deficit in leadership as well as the inadequate representation of the Palestinian Community in Israel (PCI) by training students in debate, leadership and ‘simulation’.

I`lam Media Center's project, which was developed in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Foundation, addresses the deficit in leadership as well as the inadequate representation of the Palestinian Community in Israel (PCI) by training students in debate, leadership and ‘simulation’. According to I'lam the PCI is currently not represented adequately and constructively. The coverage of the PCI in media and its presence in institutions reflects the inability of the current leadership to have control of the way it is represented. The project encourages leadership and democratic participation among students. The project took place for the first time in 2015 and continues in 2016. During the project, 15 participants undergo leadership training, which provides participants with the well-rounded skill set necessary both to effectively lead within their community, and improve their perception outside their community. The simulation and debate training are meant to improve understandings of the functioning of decision making bodies as well as increasing critical thinking on ongoing issues and hypothetical political and social eventualities. The simulation and debates are open to the public, which engages the civil society in PCI issues and encourage its investment in youth and in future leadership.
